Hail the Traveler
How briefly we live in a body
and bathe in these graces:
the flash of a vermilion bird;
the forgiveness of rain;
lilacs wafting, deliriant in air.
Sliding out to stars,
today my friend has gone.
From elsewhere
she urges me to cherish
a concert by crickets;
the comfort of clean sheets;
every friendship, every tick of time.
