At the Silent Retreat

We leave the gravity of every day
and time slows down.
Moments flow like endless waves.
One afternoon of meditation
lasts two or three days.
How surprising, the spaciousness,
and the ringing beneath the silence.
Some holy elongation changes everything
into revelation.
A good night’s sleep
can bring a week of dreaming.
And oh, the companionship,
the rarest kind:
one is alone in company.
Here is a power plant to charge the world
