All One Poem
The light on the highest trees
has gone.
First blossoms of plumeria
brave their way into dusk.
The one who is not here
buffets my heart like a persistent wind.
I beg the world to go sane,
and I hear it mutter back,
Love’s road is as long as a life.
Every day more things merge
that had seemed not to touch.
More mysteries wink and enlarge me.
It’s all a single
poem, whatever happens.
Like last light on high leaves,
I imagine it will be most beautiful
at the end.
