Ferocious Female Bocaza

Her son in the back seat, Miloslava Breach Valducea was murdered March 23, not long after her Feb 20 story was published providing evidence that public security chiefs in ten municipalities in Chihuahua have links to drug cartels, the assassin leaving a note calling her a “loudmouth”, Bocaza. Let us reclaim this description of a female truthteller! May women everywhere rise up, an army of loudmouths declaring every emperor’s nakedness.

Thank you Milos, for your longstanding example of ferocious female courage. The BBC Spanish version reporting her death called her “La Reportera Incómoda”, the Inconvenient Reporter. Her colleagues at the Diario  had this to say: “This was Milos:  the most humble Diva; the kindest sangrona; the friendliest friend. This was  ‘La Breach’: extraordinary, unrepeatable, unforgettable. ”

Thank you, Milos, not for losing your precious life on March 23,  but for putting it on the line for truth for thirty years.

  • Great story. I was just commiserating this morning, by email, with a fellow board member at Naked Stage yesterday. Sometimes she pushes my buttons because she displays the traits I don’t like in myself: bossy, tactless, etc.. you know, the ones that in men are called being a leader and a straight shooter? I have sometimes let those derogatory descriptors of women influence how I act in the world.

Lila, I’m so glad Miloslava’s life reminds us all that courageous female leadership can make those who are insecure about themselves uncomfortable, and that it is no one’s job but their own to change that. She wasn’t called La Reportera Incómoda for nothing.
