The Bicycle Bandman

At sunset on the Malecon, phtography by Susa Silvermarie
Ricky the bicycle bandman
multiplies himself to many.
He pedals to his stage
at the edge of the lake, chauffer.
He sets his speakers, soundman.
He selects his playlist, manager.
And when he’s  ready,
percussionist! Saucepan drumset!
He learned in his Mama’s kitchen!
Windchime strung between handlebars.
Cymbals on each end of the bike!
Cowbell on the handle!
Ricky the bicycle bandman
lipsyncs and dances while he plays,
broadcasting happiness
to each of us walking by
who can’t help but join the show
and dance along.
He hands out rattles
and says, Come on!photography by Susa Silvermarie
Michael Jackson, Andale!
Should’ve Known Better,
Stevie Wonder,
songs in sexy French,
the Bailador!
Wearing his white hat,
his earring shining in the sun,
he grins and gets us going.
At sunset on the Malecon,
Ricky the bicycle bandman
multiplies his joy to every passerby.

  • Thanks for the story. I love this guy.

  • Arn’t some folk clever, with practically nothing he can make us happy. What a guy. I’d love to hear his music.
