Take Sacred Action

To have a swath of the US enshrouded in darkness for a few minutes during the solar eclipse seems to me to be an exteriorization of the shroud of hate we have all seen darken and enlarge. Yet this is also a gateway opportunity to acknowledge our own shadow; a portal, if we choose to change and birth a new time of love.

Some teachers say that we are ushering in a new cycle of 26, 000 years. As a woman, I know that the “ushering” of birth is never a pretty proposition. It brings the turmoil of labor and the messy, bloody delivering of something new from the dark to the light. The language we use to describe what is happening during this eclipse is what will knit together our experience of it.

For the birth of the new cycle signaled by the eclipse, a good birthing coach might say to the laboring human race, Find your fierce Mama! Then, after she has said that once or twice, she may quietly say only, “fierce mama” or, “you know what to do.” Just as a woman’s body is profoundly challenged during birth, and a laboring mother needs to feel supported, our bodies may be challenged by the turmoil of birthing a new paradigm on earth! During this time of the birth of new consciousness, let’s be a sisterhood (general term includes brothers) of labor room coaches reminding one another, “You know exactly what to do.””

A teacher whom I trust, Sri Karunamayi, recommends fasting for a few hours before and during the eclipse. She strongly suggests meditating quietly during the eclipse, and assures us that such times produce a gateway such that meditating is exponentially more powerful than meditating during any other time. Take sacred action. And know that any action taken on behalf of birthing consciousness of our unity— is sacred action.
