Possibilities

For you, I need no eyes.
I let them close to feel
the dear surprise
of your touch on my cheek.
Sister wind,
since I was wee,
you’ve been singing me
the music of earth’s sweet air.

Wind, you bring
the dash, the dance
to our planet’s breathing dome.
Without you, wind,
how still would be the world.
Without your touch,
without your song in my ears,
how forlorn my heart.

Wind, do you think
in possibilities?
When you blow the curtain
away from my window,
I feel your curious seeking,
I listen to the longing in your voice.
I almost understand
the language of your findings.

This evening, is it
human sorrow you soothe?
Suddenly you whoosh—
in a rushing gust,
your passions pass
through my skin to my core.
Wind, my sister, you rise
into the shape of me.

Pauline, it means so much to receive your response. You know how solo the writing process is, so I think you can understand how happy it makes me to have my poem connect us.

  • What a wonderfully visual and visceral experience to read this poem.
Thank you Susa, for your heartfelt expression.
