Midnight on the Ferry

I ride her glassy back
but it’s the Aegean’s pulse beneath
that sends rough summons up,
some singing dispatch from below
that pulls on my soul
and elongates me between
black depths, black sky.

Something here in the nowhere
where there’s little trace of humans
calls me out of my skin.
Between the landfalls,
unmoored from all my habits,
I am anything, anyone,
I am all.
